YOUTH VOLUNTEERS


Youth volunteers are expected to perform the following duties, which include but are not limited to:  

a. Shelving books and other materials in the Children’s and Teen sections.

b. Adding stickers with MFL’s hours to the back of bookmarks.

c. Keeping the Children’s and Teen areas tidy.

d. Helping to prepare for and clean up after programs.

SPECIAL PROVISION FOR TEEN VOLUNTEERS


Volunteers will be expected to follow the code of conduct, which includes but is not limited to:

a. Letting us know in advance if you cannot make it in.

b. Showing up on time.

c. Staying in the building for the entirety of your shift.

d. Being polite and respectful to our patrons.

e. Using appropriate language.

f. Dressing and speaking appropriately.

g. Not being on your cell phone while working.

h. Not having friends or siblings hanging out during your shift.

5. Volunteers will be expected to perform the following duties, which include but are not limited to:

a. Shelving books and other materials in the Children’s and Teen sections.

b. Adding stickers with MFL’s hours to the back of bookmarks.

c. Keeping the Children’s and Teen areas tidy.

d. Helping to prepare for and clean up after programs.

6. Failure to follow the code of conductor or perform duties may result in termination of volunteering privileges.


 

ADULTS VOLUNTEERS

 

Adult volunteers will be accepted on an as needed basis.

Volunteers are responsible for assisting library staff with tasks such as:

a- Covering books.

b- Finding material to fill holds request reports.

c- Assisting with special projects.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY 

 

Friends of the library is a group of interested citizens who advocate and support the library in the following ways:

Volunteer their time at selected Library events.

a- Fundraising

b- Creates Public Awareness & Goodwill

c- Advocate for Library Legislation & Funding

d- Sponsor & Support Library Programs and Events

POLICY

Philosophy:

Volunteers are a valuable asset to the Monroe Free Library, and individuals and groups are welcomed to perform service to their community through the library.

In order to provide a positive experience for both the volunteer and the library, the following policy will be followed for all volunteers.

  1. When performing library duties, volunteers must act in accordance with library policy and standards
  2. Volunteers must be age 12 or older. Volunteers under 16 years of age must have written permission from a parent or guardian.
  3. Prospective volunteers must fill out and submit an application which will be reviewed by the Executive Director or Supervising Staff member.
  4. If no suitable job matches are available at time of application, prospective volunteers will be contacted and informed that his/her application will be kept on file for one year, and if within that time an appropriate position opens, he/she will be contacted.
  5. If after application a job match exists, the prospective volunteer may be required to be interviewed by either the Library Director or Supervising Staff member.
  6. Volunteers will not take the place of paid staff and will provide special, unusual, or supplemental services.
  7. All volunteers shall have access to staff restrooms and kitchen during their work hours.
  8. Volunteers can be terminated for any of the same reasons as a paid staff member.
